It is really unfortunate they haven't done nearly as much with Green as they have with Red, at least in the games since FRLG In terms of whether Green and Leaf are different characters or the same, I choose to just make them the same character. (I think Masters made Kris and Lyra different characters but. . . Nah, make them the same, lol. She dyed her hair, I dunno.) In terms of the Pokemon though, I feel like you can really give the trio any selection of the starters. But at least two selections are a bit more special than the others. That manga art is a bit special, not because it came first, but because of who has what starter. Red has Bulbasaur, the green one. Blue, taking the type effectiveness over Red, has Charmander, the red one. And Green has Squirtle, the blue one. (Well, this works less well with their Japanese names since Red has green and Green has red) On the flip side, if Red takes Charmander, Blue will take Squirtle, again, for type effectiveness, and then Green will be left with Bulbasaur. Red has the red Pokemon, Blue has the blue pokemon, and Green has the green pokemon. But aside from that, I think you can also go the way of Blue as a gym leader and just not give them any starters. I mean, thanks to Pokemon Yellow, Blue has two full teams you can pick from (One based on the starters, and another based on Gen 1 Eevee). You could either give one of those teams to Red or Green, or give Blue both and make two teams for the other two. (Which, Green has her Let's Go team, minus the Blastoise, Red has his team from Gen 2, just figure out three Pokemon to replace the starters with, his Let's Go team, minus the Venusaur, and he can take pokemon Ash used in the anime)

I think we’ve been thinking about the third versions the wrong way, thinking of them as “fixing” the first two versions. We know that prior to XY, the translation of the games to other languages would happen after finishing the games in Japanese. Like with other games, Kingdom Hearts for example, the third version probably came about as a way to monetize the times needed to spare on foreign versions of their games. Once Game Freak started global release dates, they probably tried to keep the tradition alive with Z and USUM, but once DLC became a common industry practice, they moved onto that instead.

Leaf is called Blue in the Japanese versions as "Gary" already has that name in it?

Dunno anything about gen 8+, but the older games were definitely easier. Especialy if you are familar with the Badge Glitch. With the exception of gen 6 the difficulty incrised, peaking in the Ultra-games. Don't believe me? Look at solo playthroughs, where the player FAILS with the pokemon.

BDSP was good for one thing, teaching us what NOT to do when creating a port/remake. Almost everything they did was wrong. There is good that survived the changes, and changes that are good, but they either stand in stark contrast of or are completely overshadowed by everything that is wrong with BDSP. There's so much to go over that I'd rather create a PDF breakdown then write it all here.

I agree Leaf/Green was under-utilized, but maybe if she were to make an appearance in 'Origins' or 'Generations' she may have had a voice, and the one actress I have in mind for her is Lara Jill Miller.

Actually, I think those aren't all the same character. The one you see in Let's Go is based on a version from the Japanese-exclusive anime that never got American localization. Supposedly, she's Mr. Fuji's daughter who died and why he was working on cloning science to revive her, Team Rocket caught wind and decided to bankroll it on the condition he try to clone Mew for them also. In the original Japanese version of the 1st movie, you see how this played out. You see the "dreams" of the clones as they develop, their consciousnesses joined because of Mewtwo's psychic powers. But one by one, all the clones except Mewtwo become unviable and fail, which makes Mewtwo bitter and explains why he betrays Team Rocket. Green throws Pokéballs at you because since she developed sharing her mindspace with clone Pokémon, she saw the Pokémon as equals and when she saw that people throw balls at them and she didn't really make a distinction between Pokémon and people she saw you the player character as fair game to throw balls at. Game Theory did a whole video about it, watch their explanation.

Wow, I never knew somebody else felt nearly as strongly about this as I do. I don’t get why they just abandoned Leaf over the years, and to make it worse, they introduced Green in the games -and now there’s sometimes more Green fanart being pumped out over Leaf- *eye twitch* Like, there’s just no reason whatever to ignore her character like this. She rightfully deserves to be addressed and show up just as much as any other female protagonist. I hope Green does get added to Pokémon Masters EX though, because seeing her interact with Leaf will be interesting~ That’s part of why I love the Japanese fanbase. They don’t argue over the two “”bring the same character””. They fully understand and accept that the two are different. 9:27 I actually love that they “backtracked” to Leaf. It was about freaking time they gave her what she rightfully deserved.

Leaf/Green at least gets some attention due to the confusion around her name. Kris is far more neglected after being replaced by Lyra.

A reason why Green Isn't in the original Red, Blue, Green and Yellow is that she could be dead. I'll give the full explanation later.
